International Projects
Rotary Club of Stevenage Grange thinks well beyond Stevenage. Through Rotary International, we are part of a network of over a million members in more than 200 countries, and that reach lets a small club in Stevenage change lives a long way from home. Our international work focuses on sight, safety, and the basics of a decent life: clean water, sanitation, and freedom from exploitation, as well as educational empowerment.
Making Blindness History
.One of our club’s main international focuses. Through eight overseas projects, we have funded over 7,600 cataract surgeries, restoring sight for less than the cost of a pint of beer per operation.
Action Against Child Slavery
We actively support the Rotarian Action Group Against Child Slavery, including an appeal to replace essential equipment and teaching and living aids for young children in rehabilitation centres in Nepal.
Education in Africa
Education is the project that outlasts us. In Kadoma, Zimbabwe, the club pays school fees for students who would otherwise drop out. In Opobo, Nigeria, we work with the Save Opobo Foundation to open the same door for young people in a riverine community with few other routes out. Neither project is dramatic. Both change the whole shape of a life, and they keep working long after we have gone home.
Disaster Relief
When disaster strikes, we respond. The club donates to the ShelterBox programme and to natural disaster and emergency appeals, getting shelter and essentials to families who have lost everything.
